Kiwanis Club of Temple City was pleased to have honored two outstanding students from the Independent Study Program at the Community Learning Center March 20, 2007.  Pictured with the proud students is Independent Study teacher, Mrs. Yvonne Rivera.

Nicolette is 15 years old, has 3 brothers and is in Mrs. Rivera’s class.  Nicolette enjoys driving, playing soccer and shopping.  Nicolette said, “The best things about school are science, art, and literature.”  The best thing that ever happened was when her family moved to Temple City.  Nicolette has goals of building a medical center, getting her high school diploma, getting her driver’s license, and obtaining a medical degree.

Cassandra is 16 years old and is in Mr. Jahan and Miss Gargan’s classes.  Cassandra has brothers and sisters and enjoys writing poetry, dancing, singing, and going to church with her youth group.  Cassandra said, “The best things about school are the 1 on 1 help, less stress, and the comfortable atmosphere to work in.”  The best thing that ever happened was going to Egypt for 2 weeks.  Personal goals are to attend Cal State Fullerton, become a student teacher at her church, and get a job she is happy and comfortable with.
