Kiwanis Honors CLC Students Kiwanis Club of Temple City was pleased to have honored two outstanding students from the Community Learning Center at their meeting on February 21, 2006. Pictured with the proud students are CLC Principal, Dr. Doug Sears and Rod Kingry, Instructor. Paulina is 17 years old, has an older sister and is in Mr. Rios’ and Mr. Kingry’s class. Paulina enjoys going out with her friends, going to the movies, and hanging out with her family. Paulina said, “The best things about school are my teachers, Mr. Kingry and Mr. Rios, school secretary Mrs. Suzie Ten Napel, and my friends.” If Paulina could change one thing in life, it would be that her Grandmother Paula would have never gotten a heart attack and died. Goals are to build a really big home for all the under privileged children in third world countries, return to Temple City High School to graduate, and to get her driving permit. Michael is 17 years old and is in Mr. Rios’ and Mr. Kingry’s class. Michael enjoys playing video games, basketball, football, TV, computers, and hanging out with his friends. Michael said, “The best thing about school is the schedule because I go in the afternoon, I work at my own pace, and I have fun.” The best thing that ever happened to Michael was receiving an 83 on the ASVAB (Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Test) and joining the Navy. If Michael could build one thing, it would be a machine that made a cure for AIDS and the common cold. Personal goals are to return to Temple City High School, run 1 1/2 miles in 12 minutes, and make money. |
